Sixth Form Enrichment
Working at a state sixth form, I have always enjoyed providing services to allow students to thrive and compete with students from all types of schools, so that our students gain the competitive edge and are able to secure access to their chosen careers.
Extra and Supra Curricular Activities
A successful sixth form is about so much more than outstanding lesson provision. I believe that a good sixth form student needs to be encouraged to become intellectually curious, to engage in independent research and to love learning and be interesting to teach, bringing their own ideas and research to lessons. There are so many resources and ideas around to help students develop and find what will become their passion and future careers.
From online MOOCs, to Royal Society memberships, from Radio 4 podcasts to extension reading lists, from visiting museums to accessing online lectures from top speakers, I thoroughly enjoy helping students find what is the best way for them to develop their interests and to enjoy their learning.
I am happy to deliver an assembly to the whole cohort to encourage students to extend their learning, or to provide 1-1 support.
Extended Project
I introduced the EPQ to Year 12s, and have led a small cohort of students to success in this qualification for the past three years, with all students gaining an A / A* grade, including many with full marks. I believe this is a powerful qualification for specific students but not the entire cohort, and my strength is in conducting short 15 minute interviews with students thinking of taking this to ascertain whether this is the best option or whether there are more appropriate pathways for them. I am happy to support schools looking to introduce this qualification, as well as provide specialised 1-1 interviews for students thinking about taking it.
For those who have taken this qualification, all have said it is the most enjoyable and most helpful course they have studied and would recommend unreservedly to others. For many, it has opened the door to secure them their offer and subsequent place at their chosen university.
"Mrs Jenkins is such a great and lovely teacher who has given us loads of support over our EPQ and applying to university. From GCSE RS and friends who study A level with her, we all agree she is one of the best teachers out there...."
